RETURN TO FUKUOKA

Are you ready for Fukuoka to become your next favourite destination in Japan?

I’ve long been a huge fan of this fabulous city and prefecture of the same name, and for several years, I have worked closely with Fukuoka Prefecture Tourist Association to share the love with fellow food and travel media at some excellent events!

My recent trip, in late Oct/early Nov 2024 (kindly supported by the lovely aforementioned folk of Fukuoka Prefecture, in collaboration with JTB Sydney) took me deeper into charming villages, towns and rural areas where I spent 10 days immersing myself in ‘new to me’ Fukuoka places and experiences, or indeed more thoroughly exploring places I’d previously ventured.

I consequently fell in love all over again with the richness of the region’s culture, crafts and food – not to mention the breathtaking scenery… oh, and I need to talk about the persimmons… such autumnal joy to taste 8 different incredible varieties at one sitting, in one of the top Persimmon growing regions of Japan – how different each can be..I couldn’t choose a favourite and certainly acquired a new-found appreciation for this stunning fruit! Japanese persimmons are THE BEST !

It’s now been 5 years (thanks to Covid) since I hosted a tour in Kyushu and I’ve longed to develop something new …. As soon as I returned from Japan at the end of December I started designing an itinerary that incorporated much of what I experienced (some of it I’m saving for next time and the rest is destined for my travel stories and private recommendations only – there are a couple of reasons for this, but to give you one example; whilst I stayed at some truly special accommodations – some of them only had a handful of rooms, so while I’ll soon be sharing them in one of the publications I write for – I can’t incorporate it into a tour for 8 people! Which is a darn shame as it is super cool!

Our 12-day Deep Fukuoka tour is about to go live – for more details please drop me a line via our contact form

In the meantime.. you’ll find some snaps of my research journey below .. sadly a typhoon off Taiwan brought some heavy rain and dark skies for the first half … nevertheless my incredibly generous guide and driver made sure we soldiered on and didn’t miss a thing. I miss them!
