If you are in the vicinity of Kyoto’s Ginkaku-ji (silver pavillion temple…. but not actually silver unlike the iconic Kinkaku-ji which is famously covered in gold leaf) its worth taking a little wander around the corner to find this gem. On the 2nd floor of a European style building, which looks very much out of place in this neck of the woods, you will find this charming cafe – Gospel.
Their little cakes and tarts are not overly sweet and they bake scones fresh for Devonshire tea. I recommend the glazed almond lemon “bombes” below. Lovely.
Gospel is situated on Shishigatani – the street that run’s parallel and just west of the Philospher’s path or Tetsugaku no michi (which runs along the north/eastern edge of Kyoto city). If you are on Ginkakuji michi – turn south onto Shishigatani and its just a few minutes walk to the front door – on the West side of the street. (past Omen restaurant on the eastern sie of the street.)
Here’s a link but remember to use google translate !
