I stumbled across % Arabica early in 2015. Well it wasn’t exactly a stumble, I’d spied the newish coffee hotspot sometime in 2014 it just took me a while to get back there. Boy it was worth the wait.
Their brew is fantastic. Serious stuff. The Higashiyama site ( is situated on Yasaka dori as you turn east off Higashioji dori to walk towards the Yasaka Pagoda and on the north side of the street about half way up) -is not really a place to sit and linger, although there are a few seats at the counter if you need to rest your traveller legs should you need to.
English is spoken to ensure you get just the right fix you need and within no time you’ll be climbing the hill towards Kiyomizu temple. Coffee has been on the improve in Kyoto for some years now and it really is worth seeking out some of these relative newcomers if you are a little pedantic about your roast and how it’s served. Having just discovered there’s an Arashiyama store I know exactly where I’ll be heading next time I’m in the area.
